Horrible Bosses: Verschrikkelijke Bazen; Intimidators II.

De recent uitgekomen film HORRIBLE BOSSES is in de VS een groot suc6! OK financieel niet zo'n groot suc6 als de laatste Harry Potter, de gelijktijdige release van HORRIBLE BOSSES verschoof daarmee wat naar de achtergrond, maar de business analisten hebben de film, vrij vertaald VERSCHRIKKELIJKE BAZEN, inmiddels ontdekt. Conclusie: iedere overeenkomst met jouw realiteit is louter toeval.....

Hoewel: 'If the negative portrayal of managers in Horrible Bosses were an aberration, it wouldn't matter much — but examples abound.' (nb; 'aberration' als 'uitzondering'; 'examples abound' = 'voorbeelden in overvloed') stellen Harvard professoren Teresa Amabile en Steve Kramer in hun blogentry Horrible Bosses?  'In the past few years, some executives have engaged in behaviors that do deserve public scorn. (......) If managers spend less time focusing narrowly on quarterly profits, and more time thinking about how they can improve people's lives, we might begin to see more hero-managers in our popular media.'

Robert 'Good Boss, Bad Boss' Sutton in the Financial Times: '"Horrible Bosses" provides a satisfying if rather shallow dose of  guilty pleasure for just about anyone who has endured a nasty and incompetent  superior. (....) The actions by the bosses in the film are cartoonish but all suffered symptoms  identified by psychologists who study the perils of power: they were  self-absorbed, greedy, lacked impulse control, were insensitive to subordinates  and acted like the rules applied to everyone but them.'

Sutton heeft een TIP voor bazen die, door hun zelfreflectie(!), van mening zijn dat zij zich toch op een hellend vlak bevinden: 'Silliness aside, Horrible Bosses offers a useful cautionary tale for every manager. If you treat your people like dirt, just because they comply with your absurd requests and smile through your insults and tantrums does not mean all is well. Your charges just might be waiting for you to slip up or for your  past sins to catch up with you.'

Amabile & Kramer willen de goede leiders zeker scheiden van de verschrikkelijke bazen: 'Every year, FORTUNE prints its list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For," which includes dozens of great leaders and managers.' Inderdaad, Goede Leiders zijn er ook!

& Toch zijn er nog veel werknemers die worden geconfronteerd met zo'n verschrikkelijke baas & wat doe je dan? 'Obviously, murder is not an option for the rest of us (nb; in de film volgt er een poging tot moord). For many people, neither is quitting, especially in this economy and job market. So sometimes the most feasible option is simply dealing with the current situation, unpleasant as it may be: either grinning and bearing it, or talking with another supervisor or colleague about switching groups or managers, if possible.' dit stelt Rachel Emma Silverman in the Wall Street Journal. Zou zij bij dit commentaar misschien ook haar Grote Baas & 'intimidator' in gedachten hebben gehad?
