CEST-LA-VIZ is a new data visualisation event.

CEST-LA-VIZ a window to the world. It explores data visualisation and information design in a broader context. With talks, discussions and showcases, it will focus on approaches and techniques to better understand and to better communicate data.

CEST-LA-VIZ is not about accepting the state we are in. It is about asking questions, discussing boundaries and exploring new ways.

We have 8 international speakers on stage:

• Peiying Loh is the Head and Co-founder of Kontinentalist, an award-winning data-driven editorial studio that aims to bring Asia to the forefront of global conversations. Peiying's background and passion for history is the driving force behind many of her stories. With Kontinentalist, she seeks to empower voices through cause-driven stories as well as change people's perception about Asia and its cultures.
• Derya Akbaba is a PhD student in the Department of Science & Technology at Linköping University in Sweden. In her research, she applies feminist theories to visualisation research methods and practices, exploring how power and privilege shape the foundational assumptions of how we create, study, and interact with visualisations.
• Erik Escoffier is a front-end engineer turned cartographer turned improvised information designer. He co-founded Satellite Studio, where he helped build data-driven experiences for clients, as well as more intimate experiments with maps. Since recently he's been having the time of his life crafting dataviz for the renewables revolution at Octopus Energy.
• Chesca Kirkland is an information designer currently working at Set Reset, a London-based data design studio that crafts immersive and experiential data-driven stories. From large-scale interactive exhibits visualising the ocean's plastic problem to complex magazine spreads communicating global financial transactions, Chesca thrives on working across various mediums to visualise complex information.
• Stig Møller Hansen is a Senior Associate Professor in the Coded Design Program at the Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX). He has spent nearly two decades promoting data and code as essential components in contemporary graphic design education. Stig will share his experiences and demonstrate how data can be creatively utilized to fuel the creation of captivating visual communication.
• Adina Renner is a Visual Editor at Neue Zürcher Zeitung. As part of the international desk, she reports on news from around the world through data visualization, photography, maps, and animation. She is passionate about using visual storytelling to provides readers with new insights into complex issues like the climate crisis and inaccessible conflicts zones such as the Gaza Strip or east Ukraine.
• Till Nagel is a Professor of Visual Analytics at Mannheim University of Applied Sciences, where he leads the Human Data Interaction Lab. His research focuses on information visualization, interaction design, and data literacy, with an emphasis on urban data, mobility, and healthcare. He strives to blend aesthetics and functionality to make visualizations more accessible and engaging for broad audiences.
• Martina Zunica is an information designer dedicated to transforming data into powerful narratives. With a focus on visual storytelling and creativity, she creates data visualisations, infographics and reports.
• Visualising data as the Information Design Lead at Infogr8, she is the co-founder of the Journal Dataviz Challenge, a community of data viz practitioners.
